A Weekend of Debate and Diplomacy at Haileybury MUN

This past weekend, 20 Wycombe Abbey pupils from LV-LVI attended the annual MUN conference at Haileybury, representing the United States, the Dominican Republic, Botswana and North Macedonia. Here’s what the ambassadors of each delegation had to say:

Abila (LVI), Delegation of the USA: ‘The United States delegation all enjoyed a weekend of enriching debate, especially as we were representing the US’ new administration and navigating policies recently set by Mr Trump. This challenged us to consider different global perspectives and assess our own worldviews. Having veto power as part of the P5 and getting involved in the caucuses was a great experience.

Mia (LV) – Delegation of the Dominican Republic: ‘I had so much fun at the Haileybury MUN 2025 and I will remember this experience for a long time! I loved the Human Rights committee so much! Not only was the debate of an incredibly high standard on many pressing issues but it was so easy to make friends with the other delegates. It wouldn’t be MUN without some heated debate, and we definitely saw some of that, along with a lot of laughter. If anyone is thinking of doing MUN, I would wholeheartedly suggest that you do, you won’t regret it, and it’ll lead to some of the best weekend of your time at School! Thank you so much to the staff and delegates for all the memories.’

Amelie (LV) – Delegation of Botswana: ‘This Haileybury conference was my first MUN conference, I hope it will be the first of many, I wish I had taken part in sooner! Even though I was initially anxious to speak, over the weekend my confidence flourished. It was an experience I will remember forever and I would love to thank all the staff that helped make this weekend possible.’

Daphne (LVI) – Delegation of North Macedonia: ‘The weekend was filled with plenty of fruitful (and at times heated) debates on pressing topics such as combatting nuclear smuggling going on across the committees for the delegates of North Macedonia which encourages us think on our feet. It was amazing to see the positive effects that global cooperation can have and the hard work that goes on behind the scenes. I can wholeheartedly say that MUN really is FUN and recommend that everyone give it a go. You never know, it could brighten up a MUNdane weekend!

Over the course of the weekend, a number of our pupils received recognition for their efforts. The U.S.A delegation won the Distinguished Delegation award, with Leanna (LVI) recognised as a Distinguished Delegate and Daphne (LVI) and Abila (LVI) being awarded Highly Commended Delegates. Outside of the U.S.A delegation, Elisabeth (LVI) was also awarded the Distinguished Delegate title.

Congratulations to all delegates for their hard work, insightful contributions and well-deserved recognition throughout the weekend. Bring on the next MUN conference!
